Pitcairn has no functioning monetary system of its own — the island uses the New Zealand dollar for the handful of transactions its population of roughly fifty people actually conducts. Notes issued under the Pitcairn name are produced entirely for the collector market, with no pretense of circulation. Gabris, a Slovak designer and engraver working extensively in the fantasy note and cinderella space, has produced similar pieces for several other non-issuing or nominal territories.

The watermark is the sole security feature — modest for a note that will never see a cash drawer.
