Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited is one of three commercial banks licensed to issue Hong Kong dollar banknotes — a residual arrangement from the colonial period that survived the 1997 handover largely intact. The 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics provided the occasion for this commemorative issue, which marks a rare convergence of mainland political celebration and Hong Kong's local issuing authority.
