The Eastern Caribbean Central Bank's switch to polymer for the 20-dollar denomination was part of a phased regional modernization that stretched across several years, with different denominations converting at different times. De La Rue's polymer substrate — distinct from the Guardian polymer developed by the Reserve Bank of Australia — uses a proprietary film that the company has actively promoted as an alternative to Note Print Australia's near-monopoly on the format.
