Obverse description Printed in brown and green tones, the obverse centres on a large intaglio vignette of a classical allegorical female figure seated beside a globe and rifle, attended by a cherub to her right. Guilloche medallions bearing the numeral '20' are positioned at left and right, with 'THE BANK OF NOVA SCOTIA' arching across the upper register and 'DOMINION OF CANADA' at the head of the note. The lower field carries the issue date 'JULY 2ND 1896' and place of issue 'HALIFAX, N.S.', with the denomination 'Twenty Dollars' in letterpress at foot and manuscript signatures of the Cashier and President below.
