Obverse description The obverse is dominated by two large vignettes: a tall-ship under sail occupies the left portion, while a paddle-wheel steamboat is rendered in the centre-right field. The denomination numeral '20' appears in large counters at lower left and upper right, with an elaborate guilloche underprint throughout. The bank title 'THE BANK OF ACADIA' is inscribed across the centre in bold serif lettering, above a handwritten script 'Twenty Dollars' legend, and serial number panels '0037' appear in twin ovals at the upper portion. Printer imprint lines for 'Canada Bank Note Printing Co.' are visible at lower centre, flanked by Cashier and President signature lines.

Reverse description The reverse is printed in a single green tone and centres on a large lathe-work medallion of interlocking guilloche rosettes arranged in a cruciform pattern, with the denomination numeral '20' rendered in each of the four corner lobes. Two diagonal ribbon banners cross the central medallion, bearing the inscriptions 'NOVA SCOTIA' and 'BANK OF ACADIA' in bold capital lettering.
