The 2016 series marked a significant redesign effort for the Banco Central de São Tomé e Príncipe, with Thomas De La Rue retained as printer — a relationship the bank has maintained across multiple series. The 20 Dobras sits at the low end of the denomination range, and in a small island economy with limited cash infrastructure, low-value notes of this type see disproportionately heavy use and wear out quickly.
Security provision is modest: watermark and thread only, consistent with the note's place in the series hierarchy.
