Andorra's coinage authority issued a string of bimetallic commemoratives around the turn of the millennium, and this piece — struck for the Sydney Games — belongs to that run. The gold inlay technique was fashionable among small European minting programs in the late 1990s, offering a premium product to the collector market at a time when Andorra had no domestic mint and contracted production to foreign facilities.
