Andorra's Olympic commemorative program of the late 1980s was partly a revenue exercise — the principality had no Olympic team competing in Seoul and no formal NOC recognition at the time. The coins were issued under the authority of the Episcopal Co-Prince, Joan Martí i Alanis, who held that office from 1971 until 2003, one of the longest tenures in the co-principality's modern history.
Andorra did not send athletes to the 1988 Seoul Games.
