Crane Currency, based in Dalton, Massachusetts, has supplied banknote paper to the U.S. Federal Reserve for over a century — but it has also grown into a full note printer for foreign central banks, which is how a Tunisian dinar note ends up manufactured in New England. The relationship between Banque Centrale de Tunisie and Crane reflects a broader shift among smaller central banks toward contracting production to security printers with established substrate supply chains rather than splitting paper and print contracts between separate vendors.
