Algeria's post-independence banknote program was handled almost entirely by foreign printers through the 1960s and 1970s, but by the early 1980s the Banque Centrale d'Algérie had developed enough domestic capacity to bring more production in-house. The 20 Dinars P#133 sits in that transitional period, issued during a stretch when oil revenues were propping up the state budget and the dinar was still nominally pegged under tight exchange controls that made the note's street value quite different from its official one.
The single watermark is the only security provision — no thread, no fluorescent ink. Modest even by the standards of the period.
