The Bahrain Monetary Agency was established in 1973 to manage currency after Bahrain's full monetary independence from the Gulf rupee system, and the dinars it issued consistently ranked among the higher-denomination notes in the Gulf region's purchasing power — the 20 Dinar note sat near the top of the BMA's circulating range. Thomas De La Rue had printed Bahraini currency for decades by the time this series was produced, making the relationship one of the longer-standing sovereign print contracts in the Middle East.
The BMA was replaced by the Central Bank of Bahrain in 2006, rendering this series the last issued under that authority's name.
