Additional information

Issued to mark the 40th anniversary of Elizabeth II's coronation, this piece belongs to a wave of commemorative silver crowns the Turks and Caicos Islands produced throughout the 1980s and 1990s — a revenue stream for the territory that had little to do with domestic circulation and everything to do with the international collector market. The islands maintained the Crown as legal tender largely as a framework for exactly this kind of issue.
