Beschrijving keerzijde The central field presents two male athletes in vigorous action: a sprinter in full forward stride occupies the foreground at left, while a javelin thrower caught at the moment of release appears in the background at right, the javelin extending horizontally across the upper field. This dynamic composition commemorates the Turks and Caicos Islands' first participation in the Commonwealth Games held in Edmonton, Alberta. The legend FIRST PARTICIPATION IN COMMONWEALTH GAMES arcs around the upper rim, with EDMONTON ALBERTA inscribed in a secondary arc immediately below it. The denomination · 20 CROWNS · is inscribed along the lower rim.

Aanvullende informatie

The Turks and Caicos Islands had no independent mint authority in 1978 and commissioned this piece entirely as a revenue-generating commemorative — the islands' actual currency in daily use was the US dollar. The Commonwealth Games held in Edmonton that year were the first to include lawn bowls as a full medal sport, and the last Games before the boycott politics of the 1980s fractured participation.
