Issued to mark the quincentenary of Columbus's 1492 voyage, this piece belongs to a sprawling wave of commemorative silver struck by British dependent territories in the early 1990s — many sharing identical or near-identical reverse dies across multiple issuers. The KM#118.2 designation distinguishes this from the .999 fine variant (118.1), a relatively rare case where the Turks and Caicos issued the same commemorative type in two distinct alloys simultaneously.
