The eagle's breast bears the elaborate composite arms of the Habsburg-Lorraine dynasty on a central shield. The dexter talon clutches a sword and sceptre, while the sinister talon holds an orb surmounted by a cross. The dates 1848 and 1908, commemorating the 60th anniversary of Francis Joseph I's accession, are inscribed in the upper field flanking the eagles' necks.
