Thomas De La Rue held the Nicaraguan contract through much of the Somoza period, and this series reflects that continuity — the same printer, the same basic plate architecture, across nearly a decade of reissues distinguished mainly by date and signature combinations. The P#102 20 Córdobas sits within a denomination range that saw genuine commercial use rather than being held as large reserve notes, meaning worn survivors are common and high-grade examples less so.
Nicaragua's córdoba had been pegged at 7 to the US dollar since 1945, a rate that held artificially stable through the 1950s largely due to the Somoza government's close relationship with Washington and the IMF.
