| Descrizione del dritto | The Cypriot coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a dove in flight carrying an olive twig above the independence year 1960, all rendered within a shield. Flanking the shield are symmetrically arranged laurel branches. The trilingual country name legend encircles the design, inscribed in Greek, Turkish, and English, with the coin's date appearing at the lower portion of the field. |

| Informazioni aggiuntive |
Cyprus joined the European Monetary System in 1992 but had been managing a tightly controlled pound peg since independence in 1960 — the 1983 coinage series was part of a broader decimal consolidation that replaced the earlier mil-based system introduced under British administration. The shift to a clean decimal structure was itself delayed for years by the economic disruption following the Turkish invasion of 1974, which partitioned the island and effectively severed the northern third from the Central Bank's monetary reach entirely.
