| Reverse description | The central device features two clasped hands in high relief, symbolizing friendship and commerce between the Sierra Leone Company and the indigenous population, a motif common in abolitionist and mercantile coinage of the period. The numeral 20 appears both above and below the handshake, flanking the central device in the upper and lower fields respectively. The legend TWENTY CENT PIECE arcs around the periphery, distributed along the left and right sides of the coin in large Roman capitals. The date 1791 is inscribed in the lower exergue beneath the second numeral 20. A beaded border frames the entire composition. |
