Reverse description Two upright rice stalks bearing full grain heads rise from a central stem, dividing the field and flanking the denomination. The numeral '20' appears prominently to the left of center, with 'CENT.' to the right; the word 'ESSAI' (trial) is inscribed above 'CENT.' within the curve of the lettering, identifying this piece as a pattern strike. The legend INDOCHINE FRANÇAISE curves along the upper and right periphery, and the rim is bordered by the same decorative scalloped motif as the obverse.
