Obverse description Seated allegorical figure of Marianne, radiate-crowned and draped, facing left upon a throne-like seat, holding an upright fasces in her raised right hand while resting her left hand upon the throne arm; tropical vegetation rises from the ground to her left. The circular legend REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE runs along the upper periphery within a beaded border, with the engraver's signature BARRE incuse in the lower exergue. The date 1909 appears prominently in the lower exergue beneath a raised baseline, framed by the beaded rim.
