Obverse description The obverse features the coat of arms of South Africa centered in the field, depicting a shield supported by a Khoisan figure and a Basotho figure, with a secretary bird displayed above and an elephant tusk and knobkierie crossed below. The motto in the Khoisan language, ǃKE Eː ǀXARRA ǁKE, appears on a ribbon at the base of the arms. The country name in Zulu, iSewula Afrika, is inscribed vertically along the left and right rims respectively, with the mint mark ALS appearing in the lower exergue. The date of issue is struck above the coat of arms near the upper rim.
