| 背面描述 | The reverse features a coloured pad-printed design commemorating the 35th anniversary of the classic Australian children's book 'Edward the Emu'. The upper portion of the field depicts a colour illustration of Edward the Emu lying down, his long neck and distinctive plumage rendered in naturalistic tones with a small red detail accent, set against a pale background. A horizontal rule divides this vignette from the lower field, which bears the bold raised inscription EDWARD THE EMU at centre, flanked by relief portraits of various Australian fauna characters from the story — including an echidna, a wombat, a snake, and a seal — arranged in the left and right fields. The denomination 20 appears in large numerals at the base, and the legend 35TH ANNIVERSARY arcs along the upper rim. |

Edward the Emu, written by Sheena Knowles and illustrated by Rod Clement, was published in 1988 and has remained continuously in print — an unusually durable tenure for an Australian picture book. The Royal Australian Mint's decision to place him on circulating-format coinage in 2023 follows a broader push to feature beloved characters from Australian children's literature, a program that has drawn both collector enthusiasm and genuine confusion at retail checkouts.
The pad-printing process, applied over a standard copper-nickel blank, is what makes this issue technically distinct from conventional circulation strikes.
