Beschrijving voorzijde A three-masted square-rigged sailing ship depicted in full sail, sailing to the right over stylised waves occupies the central field within a raised inner circle. The legend GUERNSEY arcs along the upper periphery in Latin characters, flanked on each side by a vertical row of small crown motifs. The date 2004 appears in the exergue below the ship, and the multilingual essai inscription ESSAI PATTERN PROBE TEST curves along the lower periphery.

Aanvullende informatie

In 2003–2004, a consortium of European minting authorities and the EU Commission circulated test pieces to non-eurozone jurisdictions exploring voluntary adoption or parallel circulation arrangements. Guernsey, as a Crown dependency outside both the UK and EU proper, occupied an anomalous position in those discussions — bound to sterling by longstanding monetary agreement yet subject to periodic pressure to harmonize. This brass essai is a product of that exploratory moment, never intended for circulation and never leading to one.
