Released as part of the Royal Australian Mint's ongoing collaboration with Australian rock acts, this piece commemorates AC/DC's 1977 album and the Bon Scott era that defined the band's international breakthrough. Pad printing — a process borrowed from industrial parts marking — allows full-colour decoration on cupro-nickel without the adhesion failures that plagued earlier coloured coin programs. The technique was refined by the RAM through the 2010s and is now a routine production method, though it renders the coin non-negotiable as legal tender in most vending contexts.
