Obverse description Sixth crowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, after the portrait by Jody Clark, wearing the George IV State Diadem and the Victorian Coronation Necklace. The legend ELIZABETH II flanks the upper field, with AUSTRALIA and the denomination 20 CENTS positioned below, along with the date 2022 and the engraver's initials JC. The portrait is rendered in a refined, contemporary style consistent with Commonwealth coinage of the period.

Additional information

Released as part of the Royal Australian Mint's ongoing collaboration with Australian rock acts, this piece commemorates AC/DC's 1977 album and the Bon Scott era that defined the band's international breakthrough. Pad printing — a process borrowed from industrial parts marking — allows full-colour decoration on cupro-nickel without the adhesion failures that plagued earlier coloured coin programs. The technique was refined by the RAM through the 2010s and is now a routine production method, though it renders the coin non-negotiable as legal tender in most vending contexts.
