Issued to mark the 50th anniversary of AC/DC's formation in Sydney in 1973, this is one of several coins the Royal Australian Mint released in a broader AC/DC commemorative program. The pad-printing process — a technique borrowed from industrial product decoration — allows full-colour surface application onto cupro-nickel blanks without the limitations of traditional enamel inlay, though long-term adhesion remains a documented concern for conservators handling pad-printed Australian commemoratives.
