Reverse description The reverse depicts two emaciated Allied prisoners of war engaged in forced labor on the Thai-Burma Railway, overseen by an armed Japanese guard, rendered in bold relief against a stippled field. The harrowing scene commemorates the suffering and sacrifice of the tens of thousands of POWs and Asian laborers who perished during the construction of the so-called Death Railway in World War II. The denomination 20 appears at the left of the design field, while the commemorative inscription THAI-BURMA RAILWAY arcs along the upper periphery.
