| Beschrijving keerzijde | A female surf lifesaver depicted in dynamic relief, standing upright and extending both arms to manage a lifesaving line, her figure silhouetted against stylised concentric wave lines that radiate across the field. The inscription 'Year of the SURF LIFESAVER' appears in the lower left field, with the denomination numeral '20' prominently displayed in the lower right. | Aanvullende informatie |
The surf lifesaver motif on the Australian 20-cent denomination has appeared since 1966 decimalization, drawn from Stuart Devlin's original design suite. This gold proof version was issued as part of the RAM's ongoing bullion and collector proof program — the 24.36-gram weight in .9999 fine gold makes it a substantial piece for what is nominally a circulation denomination's face value.
The 4th portrait of Elizabeth II, by Ian Rank-Broadley, was adopted by Australia in 1999.
