| Reverse description | A pad-printed full-colour scene depicting the arrest of Governor William Bligh during the Rum Rebellion of 1808, rendered in a stylised cartoon manner after a contemporary satirical illustration. Three British soldiers in red military tunics and black shakos are shown in dramatic poses: one figure crouches centrally in a submissive posture while two flanking soldiers stand in attitudes of authority, set against a plain interior background suggestive of a colonial building. The vivid polychrome printing contrasts with the surrounding silver proof surface of the rectangular flan. The composition commemorates the only successful armed takeover of the Australian government, led by officers of the New South Wales Corps. |
