| Reverse description | Central design depicts the Australian submarine AE2 riding on the surface of the sea, rendered in fine relief with detailed hull and conning tower. Two submariners are shown standing on deck, evoking the vessel's celebrated 1915 Dardanelles campaign. The denomination 20 appears at the lower right, while the inscriptions WW1 - ROYAL AUSTRALIAN NAVY and AE2 are positioned within the field and along the periphery, framing the central maritime motif. |

Issued to mark the centenary of the Royal Australian Navy's involvement in World War I, specifically the 1914 seizure of German New Guinea — one of the first Allied offensive operations of the war. The RAN's contribution to that campaign is rarely discussed alongside Gallipoli, but it preceded the Dardanelles by nearly a year.
