| Additional information |
Australia's 1995-dated 20-cent piece was reissued in fine silver by the Royal Australian Mint in 1998 as part of the Masterpiece in Silver program, which reproduced circulation coinage in proof quality on purpose-struck silver planchets. The 1995 date was chosen to coincide with the fiftieth anniversary of the United Nations founding — the original circulation issue had been part of Australia's commemorative participation in that anniversary year.
The program attracted sustained collector interest through the late 1990s, partly because the silver strikes revealed die detail invisible on the standard cupro-nickel originals.
