Additional information

The 1938 Florin this coin replicates was designed by George Kruger Gray and issued under the auspices of the Commonwealth Bank, which at that time held responsibility for Australian currency administration before the Reserve Bank's establishment. The original circulation issue marked the 150th anniversary of the first European settlement in Australia — a politically loaded commemorative even by the standards of its day.

The Royal Australian Mint's 1998 restrike in .999 silver offers a controlled-mintage reproduction struck to a finer standard than the original cupro-nickel piece ever achieved.
