Issued to mark the centenary of the Coo-ee March of 1915, in which a small group of men left Gilgandra, New South Wales, and walked roughly 500 kilometres to Sydney, recruiting volunteers along the way. By the time the column reached the city, it had grown from 26 men to over 260. The march was a direct response to recruiting shortfalls as Gallipoli casualties mounted and enlistment figures fell short of what commanders in the field were demanding.
The Royal Australian Mint released several commemorative 20-cent pieces in 2015 tied to the Anzac centenary program, of which this is one.
