Obverse description The obverse features the coat of arms of South Africa centrally positioned in the field, depicting a shield supported by two human figures above crossed spears and a knobkierie, surmounted by a secretary bird with outstretched wings and a protea flower at its base, all enclosed within a laurel wreath. The date appears in the upper field above the arms. The Khoisan motto legend '!KE E: /XARRA //KE' is inscribed on a banner at the base of the shield. The country name 'AFRIKA-' appears to the left and 'DZONGA' to the right of the arms in curved lettering, with the engraver's initials 'ALS' below.
