Obverse description Seated allegorical figure of Marianne facing left, wearing a radiate crown, draped in classical robes and resting her right arm upon a fasces; a sheaf of wheat appears to the lower left and an anchor to the lower right, symbolizing agriculture and maritime trade. The legend REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE arcs along the periphery, with REPUBLIQUE to the left and FRANÇAISE to the right. The date 1920 is inscribed in the exergue, with the engraver's signature BARRE appearing just above it at the base of the design. The composition is rendered in a refined neoclassical style characteristic of Barre's work for the French colonial coinage series.
