| Obverse description | Seated allegorical figure of the French Republic (Marianne), radiate-crowned and draped in classical robes, facing left on a stone throne; she holds an upright fasces surmounted by a spear-tip in her left hand and rests her right hand on the seat. Tropical vegetation rises at lower left, with a lightning bolt visible at lower right. The engraver's name BARRE appears incuse in the lower exergual border. The surrounding legend REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE arcs along the upper periphery within a beaded border, and the date appears prominently in the exergue. |
