Issued by the Spanish Republic's Military Health Council during the Civil War, this cardboard emergency piece belongs to a category of necessity currency produced when metal was being consumed by the war effort. The Consejo Superior de Sanidad Militar issued these specifically to fund medical services — the "Especial Movil" designation indicates a fiscal stamp repurposed for small-denomination exchange rather than a conventionally minted coin. Cardboard issues from 1938 survive in disproportionately poor condition given the obvious material fragility, and Miró 78 is among the more elusive of the sanidad types.
