Essais for French Guiana were never followed by regular coinage — the colony relied on mainland French issues and locally circulating foreign pieces throughout the nineteenth century. This 1887 piece was a pattern submission that went nowhere, leaving KM#E2 as one of a handful of trial strikings produced in Paris for a colonial monetary infrastructure that was never built.
