Additional information

Haiti's copper-nickel coinage of this period was struck at the Paris Mint, as the country lacked domestic minting capacity throughout the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The 1907–1908 issues arrived during the presidency of Nord Alexis, an octogenarian general whose government was already collapsing under debt obligations to French creditors and internal revolt — he was ousted in December 1908 and fled aboard a French warship.
