Obverse description The papal arms of Pope Pius XI occupy the central field, depicting a shield charged with an eagle above three roundels, surmounted by the papal tiara and flanked by crossed keys, all supported by elaborate baroque scroll mantling with pendant tassels. The circular legend PIVS·XI·PONT MAX·AN·IVB· runs along the periphery, with the dual commemorative dates 1933 and 1934 inscribed in the lower exergue, separated by a small decorative motif. The design reflects the Italian medallic tradition of the early twentieth century, rendered in high relief by engraver Aurelio Mistruzzi.
