Comments

Gruppignano, located near Udine in the Friuli region, was one of Italy's largest prisoner-of-war camps during the Second World War, holding primarily Yugoslav and later British and Commonwealth prisoners. The internal scrip issued there was a deliberate control mechanism — camp authorities restricted prisoners to denominated paper that could only be spent within the canteen system, preventing the accumulation of Italian currency and limiting escape financing.

The pink coloration distinguishes this 20 Centesimi value within the Gruppignano denomination series, a simple chromatic differentiation scheme used across the camp's scrip issues. These notes were never redeemable outside the wire.
