Obverse description The Mexican national arms occupy the central field, depicting an eagle displayed facing left, perched upon a prickly pear cactus issuing from a rocky outcrop, and devouring a serpent in its beak and talons. The cactus is flanked by an oak branch to the left and a laurel branch to the right, tied with a ribbon at the base. The legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS curves along the upper periphery in bold Latin letters. A decorative stepped border of pre-Columbian style runs along the inner rim.
