| 裏面の説明 | The central field features a three-quarter view of a colossal Olmec stone head, rendered in high relief and depicting the characteristic helmet, broad facial features, and downturned lips of the famous monumental sculptures. The legend CULTURA OLMECA appears vertically along the left field, and the mint mark Mo is positioned below it to the lower left. The date 1980 is inscribed vertically along the right field. The denomination 20 ¢ is rendered in large numerals and a cent symbol in the lower portion of the field. A decorative stepped border of pre-Columbian motif encircles the entire design. |

KM#Pn218 belongs to a cluster of pattern strikes Mexico produced in the late 1970s and early 1980s as the Banco de México evaluated alternative compositions ahead of anticipated monetary reforms. The shift away from established alloys was driven partly by rising raw material costs and partly by the logistical push to standardize coinage across denominations. Most of these trials never advanced beyond a handful of struck examples distributed to select institutions and collectors.
Surviving specimens are essentially traceable — the population is that small.
