Entre Ríos province issued its own currency during periods when Buenos Aires either couldn't or wouldn't supply adequate circulating medium to the interior. The Tesorería — a provincial treasury office rather than a chartered bank — served as the issuing authority, a common workaround in Argentine provincial finance of the 1870s when formal banking infrastructure outside the capital remained thin.
The "Fuertes" designation distinguishes these notes from the heavily depreciated moneda corriente still ghosting through older transactions. PS#1373 is among the lower denominations of the series, suggesting it was intended for everyday local commerce rather than inter-provincial settlement.
