Obverse description A plain letterpress-printed emergency note enclosed within a repetitive ornamental border. The central field carries a redemption pledge certifying that the Commonwealth Government of the Philippines will redeem the certificate at face value upon termination of the emergency, with the denomination TWENTY CENTAVOS set in bold type above the issuer name MINDANAO EMERGENCY CURRENCY BOARD. The numeral 20 appears in each corner, and the lower portion bears the series year 1944, printed member names, and a manuscript signature.
