Philippine municipal emergency currency proliferated under Japanese occupation after the invading forces withdrew prewar Philippine Commonwealth notes from circulation. Tubigon is a coastal municipality on the island of Bohol, and like dozens of other local governments across the Visayas, it issued its own scrip to keep commerce functioning in the absence of any credible centralized currency.

These guerrilla-era municipal notes were produced with whatever printing resources were locally available — often resulting in crude typography and inconsistent paper stock. The Tubigon issues are among the less-documented of the Bohol municipal series, and surviving examples in any condition are infrequently offered.
