| Obverse description | Host coin is a Paraguayan 4 Centésimos of 1870, upon which two countermarks have been applied: a rectangular punch bearing the numeral '20' denoting the new revalued denomination, and a second punch bearing the letters 'D.O' identifying the issuing Western Department authority. The original obverse legend 'REPUBLICA DEL PARAGUAY' remains partially visible in the field surrounding the countermarks. A five-pointed star accompanies the counterstamp devices. The countermarks are crudely but firmly applied, consistent with military occupation emergency coinage practice. |
