Obverse description Front-facing portrait bust of Queen Mother Yaa Asantewa (1863–1923) at left, with the national arms at upper right. The note carries the motto inscriptions FREEDOM OR DEATH and GYE NYAME (meaning Except for God) within the design. Denomination numeral 20 appears at lower corners, with the legal tender clause printed across the lower portion of the face.
