| Obverse description | The obverse features a central inscription in four large Chinese characters reading 光緒元寶 (Guangxu Yuanbao, meaning 'Guangxu Original Currency'), arranged in a cruciform pattern around a central floral rosette. The upper field bears the two-character legend 江蘇省造 (Made in Kiangsu Province) in Chinese, flanked on either side by Manchu script reading ᠪᠣᠣ ᠰᡠ (Boo-su, the mint name). The lower field carries the denomination inscription 每元當錢二十文 (Each piece worth 20 Cash) in Chinese. All legends are contained within a beaded inner border, with a reeded outer rim encircling the design. |
