| Vorderseitenbeschreibung | Intaglio-printed portrait of Pantaleón Dalence at right, set against a green and orange guilloche underprint, with the Bolivian coat of arms rendered as a vignette at lower centre. The denomination numeral '20' appears in large format at lower left and upper left corners, with two facsimile signatures below the central inscription — those of the Presidente and Gerente General a.i. of the BCB. The issuer's name arcs across the top in a red band, and the legend 'LEY 901 DEL 28 DE NOVIEMBRE DE 1986' is printed in small text beneath it. |

P#224 spans an unusually long production run for a single Bolivian denomination — over a decade and a half, across three separate printers. Canadian Bank Note Company, De La Rue, and Oberthur each produced portions of this series, which accounts for subtle but detectable differences in ink saturation and thread placement between print batches. Collectors tracking by series letter (F through J) can often attribute specific letters to specific printers, though Banco Central de Bolivia has never published a definitive breakdown.
The 20 boliviano denomination was reintroduced in 1986 following the catastrophic hyperinflation that had wiped out earlier monetary units entirely — at its peak in 1985, Bolivia recorded annual inflation above 20,000 percent.
